This article presents the role of the French military veterinarians in the Napoleonic armies. The number of military veterinarians and its evolution during the French First Empire are explained. Recruiting modalities, statutes and ranks of the veterinarians are detailed. The exercise of veterinary medicine in the army and the uniforms of the military veterinarians are presented.
