Artifacts from the wreck of HMS Invincible which ran aground in the Solent in 1758 will go on display
in a special exhibition in Poole, Dorset. The historic 18th century ship, captured from the French in 1747
was found to be of a revolutionary new design of longer type 74 gun warships, copied by the Royal Navy.
With the 74's becoming the backbone of the Royal Navy in subsequent years, leading upto the Battle of
Trafalgar in 1805, where they say three quarters of the British 74 gun Ships of the Line were of this singular
design.
