Münster's proposal

Î found it, in Walter Hubatsch (ed.): Karl Heinrich Friedrich vom Stein, Briefe und amtliche Schriften, Stuttgart 1963. Vol. 4, p. 20.

In a letter to Stein of 26th January 1813, Münster wrote:

So Münster had proposed this design to the British authorities who were in negotiations to take the legion in British services. The last phrase seems to mean that others had proposed different mottos for the flags.

As the legion was taken over into British pay as late as July 1813, probably these St. George flags were not produced before this date, if ever. Arndt might have got to know about Münster's concept for the flags, as the proposed motto was taken flatteringly from one of his own poems.
