If I am counting correctly, he would been a conscript of 1806 (age 20 years when called)
département Rhin-et-Moselle : 237 conscrits
http://www.napoleon-series.org/military/organization/c_conscripts1806b.html

These men were sent to these régiments :
100 men : 5e légère
116 men : 86e de ligne
13 men : 6e dragons
8 men : 4e artillerie à pied
http://www.napoleon-series.org/military/organization/c_conscripts1806d.html

It was pretty rare, but not un-heard of, to move enlisted men form one régiment to another.
However, of the listed régiments, only the 4e artillerie à pied served in Russia, suffering officer casualties at Krasnoï and the Beresina

7 officers and 484 men of the 1ere, 10e, 11e, 14e & 21e compagnies du 4e régiment d'artillerie à pied started the campaign in the seige train and reserve artillery park at Dantzig.

If I did not count correctly, your ancestor could have been a conscript of An XIII (1805), or actaully reported later when a call-up was made that included some passed over from prior years. I do not have a total list of all the call-ups from Rhin-et-Moselle, but someone here on the Forum might have this. In any case, in each year you will be able (hopefully) to get the list of régiments.
With the list of possible régiments, check to see if they served in Russia. Of this reduced list, you can then inquire at the French military archives, giving name, date of birth and régiment. The archives are not complete, so this process should be only about 50% likely to identify your ancestor.

In 1857, a commerative medal was given to all then-living veterans of Napoléon's army :

Not all men who qualified claimed there medal, and not all medals are in the database. I did a quick look and did not find your ancestor. The odds of your ancestor being in the database are perhaps 1 in 6. So you might try some more spelling variants.
An entry looks like this :
nom: SCHMIDT
prenom: Jean Antoine
annee_de_naissance: 1784 (birth year)
commune_de_residence: Vic (in 1857)
arrondissement: CHÂTEAU SALINS (in 1857)
departement: Moselle (in 1857)
code: F57 (code for the département)
pays: France
grade: sergent
regiment: 96e de ligne
periode: 1807 - 1815
campagnes: Aut/Port/Esp/Aut
divers: 2 blessures

This is a database of those awarded the Légion d'honneur. It is also not complete, and non-Frencha re the most often absent. Only perhaps 1 solider in 50 or 1 in 100 received this award. Again, try many spellings.
