Just to set the record straight and balance my posts on French prisoners of war in Britain.
Its always worth checking out how British POW's either held captive or on parole, faired in France.
In the past I have come across an article about one group of british officers in France
who were praised by the 'parole towns' mayor for their intiative and prompt response
in extinguishing a fire that saved many lives.
Of course their were many extraordinary escapes from France during the Napoleonic Wars
and the book Napoleon and his British Captives by Michael Lewis shows that the British escape
committee, was quite large during the Napoleonic Wars.
