The Napoleonic Source Book by Philip Haythornthwaite. New York: Facts on File
Inc. 1990.
It has general information on the army of the Ottoman Empire (or Sublime Porte).
The army was composed of two main branches: the regulars (who received paid) and the irregulars, unpaid and assembled only in wartime, both infantry and cavalry. There were also provincial forces.
The regulars consisted of a cadre of officers available for employment and the principal force called the Janissaries. Haythornthwaite gives further details on their organization; however, no regimental designations are given.
