Some time back, a good fairy sent me this book: `Geschichte der Oesterreichischen Artillerie von den Fruehesten Zeiten bis zur Gegenwart`, published in Vienna in 1887; over 400 pages.
Having finally finished making Nativity scenes for a penance, I skimmed through this yesterday - WOW!
This contains SO MUCH valuable artillery history, which will be new to the vast majority of readers, that I will be translating sections of it, which are relevant through 1815, as fast as I can.
The original text will also go onto the SOJ, for those who might be interested in catapults etc, and for those who wish to check my translations to ensure that I have not missed or twisted anything.
Suffice to say, that their is a lot more on the Swedish advances in the XVII Century, early cartridges, quick-firing breech-loaders etc.
