Some kind soul sent me a copy of Part 1 of `Taschenbuch fuer k. k. oesterr. Artillerie Offiziere` by Josef Freiherr von Smola, published by Strauss, Vienna 1832.
Having just finished Dollaczek, I cruised through the 300 + pages, thinking to start on this one next.
Unfortunately, it is jam-packed with tabular numerical data, chemical formulae, ready-reckoners of weights and measures of various European nations and would be of interest only to a very limited readership.
I have thus decided not to translate it.
We may make the original available on the SOJ, but I will concentrate on translating more readable texts, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Swedish, dealing with the development of artillery up to 1815.
Of course, if a volunteer wants to tackle Smola, I am sure we can make a copy available to him.
