Re: St Petersburg Dragoons
In Response To: St Petersburg Dragoons ()

Hi Manuel,

The regiment was established as the Geshov's Dragoon Regiment in Moscow in early 1707 and renamed to St. Petersburg Dragoons in 1719. Still, its name varied depending on a period - during the Seven Years War, it was designated as the Horse-Grenadier Regiment while after the war it was a carabinier regiment until 1775 when it reverted back to the dragoon designation. The regiment participated in virtually all major conflicts Russia had fought between 1700 and 1815, including the Great Northern War, Seven Years War, the 1799 Campaign in Italy, Russo-Turkish Wars (four wars) and the Napoleonic Wars. In 1808, it was awarded the 1807 St. George cuirassier model standards (one white and four greens) in recognition of the capture of three French "flags" during the 1805 and 1806/1807 Campaigns (etendard of the 11th Dragoon Regiment in 1805 and eagle of the 18th Line on 7 February and 44th Line on 8 February 1807).

In 1812-1813, the regiment was commanded by Major I. Annenkov while Major General I. Manteyfeldt was its chef. From October 1813 to the end of the Nap Wars, the regiment was led by Colonel Christopher Borisov.

The existing regimental history is E. Kamenskii, Istoriya 2-go dragunskogo S.-Peterburgskogo Polka (Moscow, 1899), 2 volumes.

Best wishes,
Alex
