In our newspapers were several reports about "El Gordo" ("the fat"), initially played in Cadiz 1812 and still one of the biggest lotteries. I was wondering, whether this had to do with the war in Spain (since Cadiz was always under Spanish control - perhaps the local junta wanted to finance via this way the war against the French?)? Any ideas about this?
