On 4.iii.1800 (os) he was retired with the rank of 'full' (i. e. infantry) general, pension, and the right to wear his uniform. In July of the same year he was returned to service with the rank of general of cavalry.

Note: 'Full' general and general of cavalry were of the same rank. During this time the rank of 'general of infantry' was not used.
