Yes, thank you. That explains the page disconnect. I quoted part of those pages from my edition. Apolda was the target of Davout's march, which would have been in the same direction as Bernadotte on the way to Dornburg. This was Napoleon's thinking. Davout obviously chose to go there, but north away from what was supposed to be the main Prussian army and the main battle. That left the decision of where to go to Bernadotte as was indicated by Davout's orders and the postscript...and of course, Davout's question..

Vachee points out on page 59:

"The conflict which arose between those two marchals and resulted in Bernadotte's regrettable inaction in the battles on the 14th would doubtless been avoided had Bernadotte been completely informed of the idea of the Emporer's manoeuvre ."
