Hi Tony, and btw I trust you have had a great Christmas, can you also tell us to which brigade, division and corps the 33e and the 34e regiments belonged in Spain and Portugal?
IMHO, this is one of the examples of where more detailed knowledge and experience of the available historical sources would benefit a fresh review of French activities in Spain and Portugal.
I have no knowledge of the 33e at the moment
All we have from Oman is that the 34e was a very strong single battalion making up part of the garrison of Ciudad Rodrigo and yet, according to Martinien, this regiment saw considerable service in Spain and Portugal (perhaps as part of Marmont’s relieving army of Ciudad Rodrigo) in 1811 prio to the siege.
