Re: Standards/Flags of Russian grenadier battalion

How were you able to put illustrations in your post? You need a URL for the image. Put that URL in your post where required. Highlight the complete URL, then click on the grey 'image' rectangle on the far right of the long grey bar that is right above where you input your message. Bingo Bango Bingo.

Not only guard regiments. The two regiments you asked about are guard regiments: Preobrajensky 1805: Semenovsky 1805.

How am I able to look at the illustrations that are referenced in the link you put in your reply? They should show up automatically. There are two illustrations in both my 1st and second response. If not there is something not set correctly on your internet browser.

Do all (most) Russian infantry grenadiers battalions wear the shako with the "bottle brush" plumes? I would suggest you read my good friend Mark Conrad's free translations of Viskovatov. these can be viewed and downloaded for FREE at:
http://marksrussianmilitaryhistory.info/

Vol. 10 parts A & B would be useful to answer your question:

A - Organization of the Russian Army 1801-1825:

B - Grenadiers, Musketeers, Marines, Jägers, Carabiniers 1801-1825. (Text) :

The B&W plates can be viewed on a Russian site that is safe to use. Plate volumes have the same number as Mark's text volumes. Web site:
http://www.memorandum.ru/viskowatov/imglist.html

Vol. 10 [X] plates are here:
http://www.memorandum.ru/viskowatov/T10/pic/index.php Click on the red numbers [1]-[5] to view the plates in numerical order. Note: Mark lists the plates in each volume with an English translation. YEA MARK!

A note regarding standards - most regiment carried there standards issued under Paul I. Some units were issued new standards under Aleksandre I for various reasons see the volume on infantry standards: see Vol 9 re standards under Paul I; For the plates see Vol IX [5] & [6]
Vol. 9 (text):

Vol. IX (plates):

Fly to great heights, my friend. <;^}
