This article would have been very useful had it offered the inferred insights into the almost constant irregular warfare the Portuguese sustained in the north of Portugal between 1808 and 1811 against French forces. Unfortunately, apart from a few tantalising snippets, it does not deliver. BTW – some work required on the translation of the abstract. I don't think even Vicente argues the British wanted to conquer Lisbon. Best A
