There are two volumes I have found useful in documenting the Royal Navy's repeated arson up and down the Chesapeake:

-The Burning of Washington: The British Invasion of 1814 by (the aptly-named) Anthony Pitch, published by The Naval Institute Press, and

-Flotilla: The Patuxent Naval Campaign in the War of 1812 by Donald Shomette, published by The Johns Hopkins University Press.

While not a focal point of either volume, enough is mentioned, and evidence provided, for the repeated acts of British arson, pillaging, and looting in the Chesapeake in 1813-1814 to give substance to the accusations in this area against the Royal Navy. Admiral Cockburn and Captain Nourse are notable arsonists in the naval campaigns in the Chesapeake during the war,
