The Royal Veterinary College (then known as the Veterinary College of London) was only started in 1792, copying the French ecole. The first principal was a French (probably émigré) from the French school in Lyon. John Shipp was the first qualified veterinary surgeon to join the British Army in 1796. So it seems the French had a long headstart in the education of veterinarians.
