Gleig's The Hussar

Hello

I have just looked through the archives and my last posting was in 2006.

I am a bit confused on the status of Gleig's The Hussar as a genuine memoir. The Longman Companion to Victorian Fiction says is fiction and I quote "The Hussar (1837) is presented as the autobiography of Norbert Landsheit...".

The Victorian Web lists it under fiction too. It states in the Introduction to the page "The following bibliography lists historical novels reviewed or otherwise mentioned) between 1830 and 1870 in the British periodicals that I consulted. In selecting these novels, I have applied the criteria most commonly used by the Victorians themselves."

Any thoughts please?

David
