Chechensky (Chichensky) Alexander was born to a Chechen noble family. In 1812, he commanded the 1st Bug Cossack Regiment and distinguished himself at Borodino, garnering the Order of St. George (4th class). He then served in Denis Davydov’s detachment, fighting in the Vyazma region, and distinguished himself during the French retreat, capturing hundreds of French stragglers. Chechensky took part in the 1813-1814 Campaigns as well and later rose to major general before dying in 1834.
