Was reading Stephen R. Platt's excellent new book, "Imperial Twilight" on the origins of the First Opium War, and I was interested to discover in his narrative a William John Napier, 9th Lord Napier, former RN Captain during the Napoleonic Wars, who was sent to Canton in the 1830s to "supervise" British trading interests in China. Was wondering if anyone knows how closely related he was to the Napoleonic historian, William Francis Patrick Napier.-Alex
This might help.
