If you are going to discuss slavery and the slave trade, it is worth noting that the United States outlawed the slave trade in 1807-1808, an event that is usually overlooked. And should also be noted that the British did not abolish slavery in the West Indies until 1833. France finally abolished it in 1826. It was a progressive, as to time, process for Great Britain, France, and the United States. And the United States fought a civil war over it that cost 630,000 dead.
