Re: Recruitment in Saxony 1813 and 1814

Yes, I was citing a paper:

Stavropolous, Alexander, “The Role of the French Diplomatic Corps in the Reform and Exploitation of the Satellite States of the Napoleonic Empire, 1803-1813." Paper presented at the Consortium on the Revolutionary Era, Fort Worth, TX, 2013.

And my apologies: I just realized I was wrong about the divorce law. That was Napoleon intervening in Naples - not Bavaria - to overturn a local divorce law. The Bavarian example I was trying to think of, was an 1808 trade treaty between Bavaria and the Kingdom of Italy, which Napoleon demanded revised in order to make modifications that would favor France.

The larger point I was attempting was: Napoleon didn't treat any of the satellite states as truly sovereign, so I would be very interested in seeing any contemporary correspondence from their leaders or statesmen that expressed a desire to be in the Confederation for the purpose of "maintaining their independence."
