I've now read through the work, ( very roughly since it is extremely long and detailed and also because I struggle with modern French) and it is very impressive, thoroughly researched and documented.

There were a lot of interesting little snippets: up till now I never gave a thought to the difficulties of the provincial administrators in 1814-15 trying to decide which letter-heading they should be using this month (some just crossed out the inappropriate symbols, others went for plain paper): after July 1815 not only new paper but new stamps and seals had to be distributed, one wonders how much bureaucratic delay was caused to unfortunates whose document had the wrong stamp.

The subject is Ile-et- Vilaine but there is a bit about the Midi and an interesting run through the various historians of the Terreur Blanche.
