Major General Bock's seniority in the army made him the senior cavalry brigade commander after the recall of Major General John Slade in April 1813. In the absence of Cotton, as given by Tom's post, Bock commanded the cavalry by seniority.

He reverted to command of his brigade c.25 June upon the return of Cotton.

Sadly, in January 1814, while going home on leave, Bock and his son were shipwrecked and drowned.
