My understanding is that 1st Battalion Grenadier company would be named 1e compaigne de grenadiers and each battalion after would be 2e,3e,4e and so on. In T.E. Crowdy book Incomparable on page 222 he says "The letter followed a letter by the captain of the 3rd Carabiners to a sweetheart in which he indicated Cardron was seriously ill." Cardron was part of Oudinot's 'Infernal Division" I hope this is helpful and those who have more access to french sources than I do will be able to help even more.
