Help with a French Term Used by an English Officer

In 1810, Lieutenant Harry Smith was seriously wounded at the battle of the Coa River. He was evacuated to Pinhel, about 20 km away. There the wounded were "Sir Thomas Picton treated us wounded en princes."

Does anyone know what he meant by "en princes"?

Thanks!

Bob
