Re: [book] Armies of the War of 1812 @ WHP

I don't have the book and probably won't buy it.

What I do have are two uniform books on the War of 1812 by Rene Chartrand.

They are A Most Warlike Appearance: Uniforms, Flags and Equipment of the United States in the War of 1812; and A Scarlet Coat: Uniforms, Flags and Equipment of the British in the War of 1812.
The first is 195 pages and the second is 227 pages. Both are excellently illustrated with period paintings, modern art work, and photographs of actual clothing and equipment.

The books cover the combat arms (infantry, artillery, and cavalry) as well as the supporting services and militia. The US Marines are also covered as are the Royal Marines as well as Indians.

These two books are both excellently done and are highly recommended for anyone interested in the uniforms and equipment of the War of 1812. Rene Chartrand is a noted military historian and uniformologist and all of his work is excellent and noteworthy.
