John, many thanks. Lots to think about there. As the 2nd Bn was disbanded in 1814, they may have just been using up stock of shakos they had. It is also interesting that a lot of current illustrations have them wearing 'French' hide type knapsacks, but no one quotes a good source for that either. Paul

Yes, a lot of folk lore about knapsacks as well. Lord knows. Even alleged to be a distinction/trophy awarded/granted/claimed /(fill in your own words) for their conduct at Alexandria in 1801. That would have been some tough old cowhide.

Interesting point about 2nd Bn spares.
