To place a woman on the battlefield, you could possibly have her into the fight (as cantinière helping the wounded or fighting disguised as soldier - not unusual by the time), then meeting the general in more civil circumstances.

If you knows French, you could read the article in link, very informative on the status of women in the Army, and providing a sample of cantinières and women-soldiers, including a few praised by Napoleon (Mme Cazajus, Thérèse Figueur, Maria Schellinck).
