I have a bit of query.

As well as the era of Napoleon and the French Revolutionary Wars, I have an interest in the American Civil War. With the latter era there seem to be a variety of historical societies--not sure if this is just how documents are kept in the US maybe, whereas in Europe it is more centralised in museums and archives--and other forums where you can find documents.

Essentially, I was wondering if you find that this is the case or if there are similar societies to those in the US that hold source material. Any information would be great to build my knowledge.
