When helping to clear a house in North London, I was offered a small painting as a token of thanks. Its a small portrait of a rather elegant gentleman in uniform, very nicely painted on tin (the photo doesn't really do it justice), around 10 x 7cm at the link below. The incredibly helpful Bob Burnham suggested it was a French general officers uniform from the Revolutionary Era. I was wondering if anyone might have an idea on who he might be? I am guessing it might be a souvenir or similar of some well known soldier from the time? It seems like a portrait rather than a generic picture but as someone who first thought it was an English naval officer I guess my opinion doesn't count for too much!
