Yes, Wellington was not pleased with Alten's performance. In 1813 he requested his recall. However, Wellington changed his mind after realizing that he had not requested that Alten be placed on the staff elsewhere and as the CinC could not guarantee that he would be employed elsewhere kept him in command of a cavalry brigade. Alten was granted leave of absence in December 1813 and never returned to Wellington's army.
