Re: Musee Napoleon - the Louvre
In Response To: Musee Napoleon - the Louvre ()

Dear All,

I've managed to answer my own question but thought members might be interested in the result! The painting in question is actually one of four divided images from the immense painting in the Salon Denon (room 76) of the Denon Wing in the Louvre. Painted in the time of Napoleon III, these are divided by Napoleonic images with golden N's and Eagles being the most prominent. It was painted in fresco by Charles Louis Muller between 1863-1866.

Annoyingly, I'd taken a photo of it but hadn't noticed the scene of the Emperor opening the museum. Had I done so, the telephoto lens could have been put into play! Anyway, this painting along with many others is well worth seeing when visiting Paris.

Regards,

David
