also a common spelling in the past - particularly in the 18th century.

For instance, the Scotch Brigade, four battalions formed in 1794 from Scots troops in Dutch service since 1692, brought over, placed on the British army establishment, amalgamated into a single battalion and numbered 94th Regiment of Foot in 1802.
