If we want to keep the historical trend - coalised tyrannies putting down the intruder and reinstating the Good Old Rule of the King - we need Napoleon to lose at Waterloo or a bit later, against Austrian and Russian, more convincing generals than Wellington and Blücher, who nearly lost although having odds 2 to 1.

So Napoleon could lose in Belgium, then nearly escape the RN to the USA in a red herring barrel . After all, he escaped a whole fleet in Mediterranea, twice, and USA was an unsignificant part of the world then. And I would finally know why herring could be red.
