Re: De sabel der lichte cavalerie no. 2.
Actually, many more sabres of this pattern were manufactured than mentioned in the article.
1814, 12 February, 1000 sabers by Joh. & Amr. Schimmelbusch (Ger Hof)
1814, 14 July, 1500 by the same Company (Nationaal Archief, Verbalen van Oorlog 2.13.01, inv.nr. 57)
1815, 24 April, 1000 sabers by Schnitzler & Kirschbaum (Ger Hof)
In addition 2005 sabres were purchased by the Belgian War Department in Brussels:
1814, 20 October, 2000 sabers by Kirschbaum & Schimmelbusch [sic] (Algemeen Rijksarchief, Brussels Archief A 066 – inv. nr. 150. folder 2)
1815, 22 February, 5 sabers were supplied by a certain Couet (Algemeen Rijksarchief, Brussels Archief A 066 – inv. nr. 198. receipt 190)
This results in a total of 5505 sabers of the light cavalry pattern nr. 2.
Little know is that both Belgian light cavalry regiments were armed with this pattern until 1817; Algemeen Rijksarchief, Brussels Archief A 066 – inv. nr. 70.
