Yes, it happens all the time. I bought a print of a painting from an artist I like. As he had the original right there, I could see that the colors had been changed, oranges in the print for the reds in the painting. He wasn't happy with it, [nor I] but the printer/publishers had changed the colors because they thought the oranges would sell better...the colors more likely to match the buyer's office and home decor. [ ! ]

The fact that printers etc. feel the need to change paintings that they obviously feel worth replicating, let alone free and justified in doing so, strikes me as bizarre. Don't trust the colors on any print.
