Very interesting, thanks. He made a good attempt at the of the Crown forces; bicorns and crested round hats. But he rather overstated the Irish, I think. Muskets, briquets, knapsacks, and some type of shako with a bold cockade hint at a formed, organized body rather than poorly organized and woefully equipped common people. The artist might have been assigned an agenda; penniless weavers and farm labourers, in their work clothes, carrying nothing more than a rough pike, would not seem a worthy adversary to His Majesty's noble legions.
I really must get get to Vinegar Hill on my next trip to Ireland; Google maps just ain't cutting it.
