I am a little confused about Kellermann at Quatre Bras. I had always supposed that the story was that his horse was killed under him and that he only escaped by hanging onto the stirrups of two troopers. Indeed I thought I remembered seeing an illustration of this incident. But now I haven't been able to find the fact - let alone the illustration - in any of the books I've looked in; while he is listed by Martinien has having been wounded. If so, it presumably wasn't serious enough to keep him out of action on the 18th.
Can anyone shed any light on his personal experiences?
Rory
PS Thinking about it, the hanging onto the stirrups of two different horses sounds a rather dangerous circus trick for anyone: surely better to scramble up piggyback, or turf the trooper off and take his horse....
