It's not understanding it that's the problem, so much as trying to turn it into coherent English without losing the style. I was just illustrating for Donald why I would not attempt large scale translation of de Segur.
I have an excellent, old-fashioned, dictionary, which'll beat Babelfish any day, it's the grammar that gives the trouble.
