Well, of course they were junior regiments; they were the most recently raised.
On pompons; it struck me last night, that fusilier caps had NO POMPONS. The front of the cap plate did not have one and the top of the low, conical headpiece was topped with a metal half-grenade and small flame.
Thus the Saxon regiments must have been musketiers.
