It would appear to be two different affairs.

The one under Douglas of the 6th Division was reported by Colville dated 8 October 1813.

The one at Sarre occurred 9 October 1813.

Madden had been relieved of his command and was in Lisbon awaiting further orders. He had questioned Pack's seniority in the Allied Army and asserted his claim to be the senior of the two. It appears that neither Wellington nor Beresford wished Madden to succeed to the command of the 6th Division as the senior brigade commander in the event of anything happening to the designated division commander.

Good hunting.
