At first, I thought the red was a cover over the wagons, then I looked closer and saw the red as a form of "wash" over the wagons as it covers some of the wheels (many of them are the same brownish color as used on the caissons) and, as far as I can see, the upper half of one person. There is one form "under" the wash with the same outline as the "normal" caissons. When I saw this caisson and, then, the covered figure, I began to question the artist's (restorer?) intent. - R
