Thanks for the other pictures.

To be clear, I accept your points.

My post is more about the artist's style.

My friend thought the artist did lancer pennant red, then thinned the paint for the campfire "red" and used it for the wagon. When doing so, it was - so it appears - too thin and it got over more items than intended and adding other lines (such as the cover line) were thinned by the base as well, so the artist let is be as it was.

Take, for example, the wagon wheels. Look how the wagon wheels on the Berezina red wagons are cleanly done (also a little darker) and how the Hohenlinden artist's wheels are "painted" with the red "spilling" over onto the wheels.

When the Hohenlinden artist does other wagons, they are like the Berezina ones (meaning, for example, the blue-grey does not "spill" or "wash" over the wheels - same for the other "brown" wagons).

So, for the reason of thinness (or whatever reason), the Hohenlinden artist did not go back an redo the wheels. This is where the idea of a "red cover" (meaning cloth cover) came from, though I did not think this was the artist's intention.

By the way, we are looking at 400% plus magnification.

Good details. - R
