From a campaigning perspective, terrain – along with all other topographical features - is absolute. However, Spain then, as in the early nineteenth century, must have had some redeeming features – otherwise why would it be worthwhile invading? Of course, the Romans brought and introduced many new methods of agriculture, farming, husbandry, crops, and other improvements – as did the Muslims, especially, irrigation and toleration of other faiths.
