Whether or not the author is defending Bernadotte is not the issue. The issue is Bernadotte's failure to get into action on 14 October. All I've seen in his defense so far are excuses for failure, none of which exonerate Bernadotte. And I suspect, based on postings in the past, that the reason Bernadotte is defended by whomever is because those defending his 'actions' don't like Napoleon and cannot accept that Bernadotte was wrong , on many levels.
Again, Bernadotte was for Bernadotte, and was not a good commander and definitely not a good comrade or loyal subordinate. That conduct from a soldier is reprehensible.
Sincerely,
K
