Re: L'affaire Bernadotte

> Napoleon on St Helena wrote that that Bernadotte had refused to march with Davout to Apolda unless Bernadotte led the march with his I Corps<

Napoleon's writings on St Helena are interesting as a study of his psychology but not as history. He was never notable for truthfulness.

Susan:

It is an interesting comment. Davout was ordered to go to Apolda, ostensibly to outflank the main Prussian army. That was south west and parallel to Bernadotte's march to Dornburg. While Benadotte could have insisted on leading the march on the 14th, Davout didn't go to Apolda, but marched north and east, sooo, that is a rather moot point, unless Davout marched in the opposite direction simply to avoid having to march behind Bernadotte... :D
