A good point. The wording is awkward.

I thought that this was covered by the 1st Right, which states: "Your message must be in good taste and if controversial it must be supported by documentation or evidence."

So how do we improve the wording while conveying the idea that you must document your sources?

Skip the part after "in good taste" entirely. The fewer restrictions on the free exchange of ideas, the better.

If a poster consistently informs us that, say, Russian field guns were ineffective because their wheels were made of green cheese, the rest of us will learn soon enough to disregard his or her posts.

Indeed, such a post might lead to a well-researched and carefully sourced response detailing how Russian field guns were really designed. Not terribly dissimilar exchanges have actually occurred here within living memory.
