Despite what some 19th century German historians thought, history is not a science (the historian can't recreate historical events in a laboratory nor can they be repeated and verified), but like journalism (which I think it is more closely related to) some degree of integrity and objectivity is necessary. On the other hand, history as just a mass of facts without the historian drawing conclusions (usually ultimately based on the historian's biases and preconceived notions) is usually pretty boring to read.
