Reading up on the Channel Islands (hoping to move there) one thing that puzzles me is that France has never regained possession of them for any length of time. Surely their existence as Crown dependencies of Britain must have been a continual annoyance to the French even if they weren't especially valuable in themselves. Does anyone know whether Napoleon ever looked into the possibility of retaking them? It seems hard to believe that the French navy could not have managed such a short expedition.
